The Felicity Bee: My name is Erika Michelle and I write at The Felicity Bee. My heart’s desire is to write to encourage, inspire and bring a little sparkle to others through the light and love of Jesus. I just turned 38 (AH!) and I reside in North Carolina with my 7-year-old son. When I am not writing at The Felicity Bee I run a non-profit community theater. Our theater produces over 20 live shows a year and bring love, culture and talent to our Eastern North Carolina community.
E: When and how did God call you to begin The Felicity Bee?
FB: I have been in church ministry for a very long time. At the age of 13, I joined the choir of the church we were going to. At the age of 19, I began leading worship and have done so since that time. I started numerous church theater ministries and drama ministries throughout my time as a Worship Arts leader. Worship is very close to my heart.
I was called from a young age to write for the Lord and I have lived most of my life trying to hear His voice clearly and write what He speaks. Writing and the arts have been my passion since I was a little girl. I began playing the piano at the age of 5 and wrote my first worship song at 13. I’ve written over one hundred worship songs, numerous plays for the stage, and two musicals.
E: What is the purpose behind your blog?
FB: I started The Felicity Bee because I wanted a creative outlet for writing and sharing what I have experienced with amazing people who want to create a life that shines. I wanted a place to share helpful ways to create a life that you and I are excited to wake up to every day.
We are so busy these days, aren’t we? Between work, the spouse, the kids, the home, trying to create a “Pinterest-perfect” life . . . the list goes on and on. I am one of those women. My community theater which is a 60+ hour a week job, I am a single mom homeschooling my little boy, I try desperately to be a good friend, daughter, sister, boss, artist, writer, etc. AND on top of all that I need to lose 30 more pounds! I need the Lord’s light in my life to help me sparkle and shine from the inside out. Helping other women to do so is the purpose behind The Felicity Bee.
E: How did you see God at work as you began The Felicity Bee?
FB: I started The Felicity Bee in June of 2016. I began blogging consistently in July of 2016 and I am amazed at what God has done in the last few months. When I started the blog, I imagined that my mom, my best friend and I would be the only readers, but God has touched The Felicity Bee and so many are reading, are encouraged, and are growing closer to he Lord. Families are coming together with the Open My Eyes Scripture Writing plans. I have heard testimonies of spouses finding God together. I have seen women encouraged to dig deeper into the Word. There is a group of women in Germany studying through one of my plans. It is amazing!
All of this I never thought possible . . . but God. It is not me, but Christ who works through that is able accomplish this.
E: How have you seen God at work through it recently?
FB: Recently, I was contacted by a woman whose marriage is falling apart. Her husband is abusive and she and the children are finding the courage to leave. She told me that every day she wakes up, immediately takes out her Bible, and begins the Strength and Courage Scripture Writing plan. She told me that she is finding God’s strength to see her worth and value and to find courage to move forward.
When you are obedient to the call of God on your life, He will use you for amazing things. This is just one of the recent testimonies of God’s goodness coming through The Felicity Bee.
FB: You can visit www.thefelicitybee.com to learn more about me, my testimony and The Hive (as we call it). You can subscribe to my newsletter and start one of my Open My Eyes Scripture writing plans. We use the hashtag #felicitybee on Instagram and Facebook to support each other’s journaling and Scripture Writing. I also have a devotional on No Fear coming out at the end of this month. I’d love for you to check that out!
E: How can we pray for your ministry?
FB: Please pray for God’s wisdom and creativity – that I know what to write, when to write it and who to write for – and that the Lord continues to be the driver of this blog as I remain the passenger and that He is glorified above all.
E: It is amazing to hear about how God is working through you! Is there anything else you’d like to share?
FB: Life is busy. But I believe that we can create the kind of life that leaves us blessed in the middle of busy, sane in the middle of stress, peaceful in the middle of pressure and cheerful in the middle of a challenge. I believe we can create a life that sparkles with the light and love of Jesus!
