If you look on social media for Kelsi Craig, you’ll find a beautiful, young, modern woman: she loves her friends, loves animals, has a great sense of style and a great sense of humor. She is vibrant and engaging, with a sweet spirit driving it all. But, Kelsi is no stranger to facing trials in life and experiencing God bring her through them.
Kelsi Craig is a musician and worship leader from Orlando, Florida. She started leading worship at a young age, and has acquired a mounting career, as well as a rising fan base. Throughout her life, Kelsi has dealt with a series of health issues, each of which has threatened to bring her down. But Kelsi has an extraordinary faith in God. Not only has He brought her strength and hope, but, in some areas, miraculous healing! One of the greatest things this young woman holds on to is the promise that God knows our struggles and will fight for us! She knows it’s true, and she wants you to know it, too! Kelsi’s career continues to move forward with the release of her new EP You Fight for Me, available now!
Embolden: When and how did you first feel called to a ministry in music?
Kelsi Craig: I started taking piano and violin lessons at 5 years old. At 14 years old, I joined the youth band at my church playing keyboard and eventually singing. I then was asked to be the youth worship leader at 15. I was 14 years old when I knew that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life!
E: How did you see God at work as you began?
KC: I grew up in church with my parents being pastors from before I was born. Seeing people’s lives and situations turn around simply by just being in the presence of God is an incredible thing. I saw Him open doors for me that were obvious GOD things from being connected at 17 years old, as a very young and new worship pastor, with Mark Harris- one of the most respected, wise and talented worship pastors and songwriters of our time. I got to sit under Mr. Mark and learn from him about leading worship, writing songs and the fundamentals of all that is involved with worship. I’m so thankful for the connections that have been made and the people that I’ve gotten to learn from the last decade! So thankful. It says in Jeremiah 1:5, “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Be encouraged that God knows you by name! He has a plan for your life. Sometimes when we don’t feel like anything is happening, we can trust Him and know that He’s at work and doing stuff “behind the scenes” that we may not always see.
E: How would you describe your sound/style?
KC: My new EP released on Sept. 29, 2015 is a worship EP consisting of a worship anthem,
“You Fight for Me”, “Nearer”, an intimate worship ballad, and “Heartbeat” the radio single that is an upbeat, pop song!
E Do you write your own music? What inspires you?
KC: I do! I like to journal and take notes a lot. I jot down notes and verses throughout the day that may inspire a song! I like to spend time each day writing lyrics or music.
E: What advice would you give someone with a similar calling?
KC: Make it your first priority to honor the Lord. So your worship isn’t just music, that it’s how we worship Him with our lives. It can be in our time, giving and caring for others, how we treat others, etc. Always find time to write and work on your art! Always be learning.
E: Do you have a life verse or some Scripture God has been revealing to you lately?
KC: Exodus 14:14, God is fighting for us! We need only to be still-trusting Him! It is so encouraging that GOD is for us and that He fights our battles for us! He has already won the victory and calls US more than over comers!
E: What do you feel your mission or theme in your ministry is?
KC: To encourage people that they are loved and never alone, to remind them who they are in Christ and to encourage the sick that God is our healer and provider of everything that we need.
E: How can the church pray for you?
KC: Pray for strength and provision for this new season I’m going into!
E: How can the church better support your ministry?
KC: I am looking forward to traveling more and leading worship at churches, conferences and doing Nights of Worship! Booking can be done on my website: kelsicraig.com as well as purchasing merchandise and my music! Spreading the word to your family and friends is always appreciated as well!
